How I Turned My Crochet Hobby Into a Business
If you're anything like me, you probably started crocheting just for fun. I used to post my makes on Instagram with no real intention of turning it into a business. But after a while, I realized I had something valuable to offer. People were asking about my patterns, my process, and even how I was growing my page. That’s when it clicked. I didn’t have to wait until everything was perfect. I could start where I was, with what I had.
So in this post, I’m sharing how I turned my crochet hobby into a business. If you’ve been thinking about taking that next step but don’t know where to start, this is for you.
When I Decided to Treat Crochet Like a Business
The biggest shift happened when I started looking at crochet as more than just something I did in my free time. I started asking myself questions like:
How can I turn this into something that brings in consistent income?
What do I love doing that could also help others?
How can I show up more intentionally online?
That’s when I started creating digital products like patterns, resources, and even content for brands. I stopped waiting for motivation and started building systems that helped me stay consistent.
What Helped Me Get Started
I didn’t have everything figured out from day one. I learned through trial and error. But a few things definitely helped speed up the process:
- Using Canva to write and format my patterns
- Learning how to market myself through this business course
- Taking pattern writing seriously by building a structure that works for me
- Having a simple tech setup with tools like Systeme.io to grow my email list
These tools made everything feel more doable. And most of them I still use now.
How I Make Money From Crochet
The first real income I made came from selling digital crochet patterns. I didn’t have a big audience at the time but I stayed consistent. After that, I started branching out into content creation, selling templates, creating freebies to grow my list, and now I’m working on passive income through guides and affiliate links.
If you're still only relying on physical sales or custom orders, just know there’s so much more you can do with the skills you already have.

I spent so much time overthinking and doubting myself. I didn’t know how to price my patterns, who to market to, or where to even start.
